About Red Mountain
We warmly invite
you to our Greene Street studio. It is a beautiful space with hardwood
floors, high ceilings and lots of natural light. The skylights and
mezzanines add a special quality to the character of the space.
The Yoga room is open, spacious and serene. You enter it through
an interior doorway with hand-carved Indian woodwork. Leaving your
cares (and shoes) behind, you walk into a sanctuary complete with
large gong, sari curtains, plants, candles and pictures of saints.
A world away located just minutes from your neighborhood.
The Pilates room is active & colorful. Your attention goes right
away to the equipment. If you're new to Pilates (as many people are),
then the equipment names may sound funny: Cadillac, Reformer/Pole
Combos, Chair, Barrel, etc. Don't worry, you will learn it all over
time and soon you will join the ever-growing league of Pilates fans.
Like them, you will love the way Pilates makes you feel: long, lean,
toned, flexible, open, strong and energized. |

The story behind
the name "Red Mountain Yoga" |
| |
|
|
| Patrick: |
|
"The story
behind our name is like the story behind much of what we do together.
Namely, Deborah's insight and intuition lead us to 'just the
right thing' that later turns
out to be logical and sensible." |
| |
|
|
| Deborah: |
|
"Patrick wanted to
call it 'Inner Light Yoga.' It sounded good but somehow it didn't
quite fit. Then, while driving past the red earth of the Northern
California hillsides, I thought of the name 'Red Mountain Yoga'."
|
| |
|
|
| Patrick: |
|
"After Deborah suggested 'Red
Mountain Yoga,' I told her that my 7th-grade Latin teacher had
said that our last name, Redmond, is 'Rubrimontanus' or 'Red
Mountain.' Therefore, I thought it was a great name."
|
| |
|
|
| Deborah: |
|
"I like the name because it sounds
earthy & majestic and that's what Yoga is like. In Yoga,
we work to become grounded in the world (earthy) and inspired
towards a higher purpose (majestic)."
|
| |
|
|
| Patrick: |
|
"After choosing our name, we learned
that the great Indian saint & yogi - Ramana Maharshi - lived
most of his life in a cave in the "Red Hill" or "Red
Mountain" called Arunachala. To this day, Arunachala remains
one of India's sacred pilgrimage sites. Surely an auspicious
sign."

Deborah Redmond, MA, MFT
Deborah grew up in Los Angeles as a contemplative child. She yearned to understand the nature of the human condition. Encouraged by her spiritual grandfather, she spent many hours studying philosophy, psychology and religion. In 1985, her father introduced her to an Indian Yoga teacher. After 8 years with her first teacher, Deborah studied and practiced with other teachers and developed her own teaching style. Using heart, intuition and a keen ability to integrate and simplify
healing arts, she helps people experience lasting personal transformations.

Patrick Redmond
As a teenager, Patrick longed for
deeper meaning in life. Then, his father died suddenly of a heart attack
at the age of 49. This led Patrick to become a vegetarian. A few years
later, while buying his groceries at Avatar's Golden Temple in New
Cumberland, PA, he saw a flyer for Siri Neel Singh Khalsa's Kundalini
Yoga classes. Feeling a "natural high" from his first class,
he found that Yoga offered a holistic way to inner peace. Now in his
40's himself, Patrick teaches Yoga and Pilates.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mindful, precise form
of progressive, low impact exercise developed by the late Joseph
Pilates. In Pilates, we focus on uniform development of the
body. We emphasize abdominal control and pelvic stabilization
as foundational support for the other work. With regular practice,
we develop long, strong & flexible muscles, core power
and improved posture. Pilates promotes a healthy spine, remedies
physical imbalances and often alleviates chronic physical conditions.
There are over 500 Pilates exercises that are performed either
on a mat or on various pieces of spring-based equipment including
The Cadillac, The Reformer, The Pole System, The Barrel and
The Chair. |

Red Mountain Yoga Sadhana
Yoga originated in India as a living art & science to purify, transform & integrate body, mind & spirit. It is a deeply spiritual path, yet it is not a religion. It strengthens connection to self, others & the mystical truths of enlightenment. Yoga in America has been popularized as a mindful form of exercise. This is helpful, yet Yoga is so much more. In Classical Raja Yoga, asanas or postures are only one of the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga.
At Red Mountain, you will learn Yoga Philosophy & Yoga Psychology; methods to purify your physical & subtle energy bodies; Tantra Yoga concepts including resonance, energy pathways & chakras; sacred Sanskrit chants; breathing techniques that calm, energize and/or balance; techniques of sense withdrawal, concentration & meditation; and plenty of Yoga postures to increase your strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, immunity, etc.
Your instructors, Deborah Redmond, Patrick Redmond & Michelle Donah are devoted to studying, practicing and teaching all aspects of Yoga. Deborah has been practicing Yoga since 1985, teaching since 1993 and training teachers since 1999. Patrick has been practicing since 1987 and teaching since 1999. Michelle has been practicing since 1997 and teaching since 2005.
These classes are ongoing and you may see experienced students performing the various practices. This can help because often learning is a visual process and seeing more experienced students can help motivate you as you begin or resume your own practice. We recommend new students attend a Foundations Class (information below).

PILATES REFORMER/HALF CADDIE CLASSES
Discover Your Optimum Body!

With persistent effort, he pursued various forms of fitness until he not only completely healed & strengthened himself but also became a model of health, strength and vitality. After his death, his protégés continued his work. Today people from all walks of life practice Pilates for health, strength & vitality.
At Red Mountain, Clinical Director Deborah Redmond carefully designs and/or approves all class sequences and continuously works to improve the exercises & instructions. Seminars & Workshops
Corporate Wellness Seminar: "Yoga Tools
for the Workplace"
Healthy and Happy employees are an asset to
any business. Yoga is sound in principle and has been in existence
for over 5,000 years. It is a powerful, comprehensive method of personal
health and development based on ancient wisdom. Western scientific
and medical communities have proven that Yoga can indeed relieve stress
and improve work performance. They are increasingly recognizing Yoga
as an effective means to a positive end - increased health and wellness.
In fact, Yoga is now referred to as "complementary care" rather
than "alternative
care". We will come and share with you and your employees some of Yoga's
powerful tools. In addition, attendees will learn two Yoga for Work
practices, one energizing and one relaxing, that they can do at their
desk in just a few minutes when needed. Fee:
$500 for 4-hour seminar led by Deborah and Patrick. For more information,
please email or
call us.
